While embracing Virtualization requires a number of different methods, Policy and Habit serve as a key foundation for any company serious about utilizing this approach. Policies should always be defined not to limit the actions or efforts of the team members, but instead to provide guidance on proper action, and ultimately, habit.

When people first embrace Virtualization, they often don’t understand why it’s so important to do things a certain way, but as they begin to utilize the newly defined methods (through policy), they begin to understand how to work more efficiently and productively. This is the establishment of proper habit through policy.
